Welcome to Haughton House

 

Haughton House is a bespoke respite centre situated on the grounds of the Brambles-Haughton complex on the outskirts of Newcastle Upper in Co. Wicklow.

Haughton House provides dedicated traditional respite supports to children, aged between 6 and 18, with an intellectual disability in the moderate to profound range. Haughton House also caters to individuals physical and sensory difficulties, complex medical needs, communication, feeding difficulties and / or mobility issues.

Haughton House provides a home-from-home for to up to four children each night.

We, at Haughton House, understand that caring for a loved one with an intellectual disability can be both rewarding and challenging. Our respite services provide families and primary caregivers with much-needed relief. Whether it’s one night or a few nights, our highly-trained staff will ensure your loved one is safe, engaged, and well-cared for while you take some time for yourself.

During their stay, we offer fun and stimulating activities, promoting social interactions and individual growth.

During your loved ones stay they have access to a variety of activities including lots of toys, games, art and crafts, music, dancing and sensory play dependent on individual needs and preferences.

Haughton House boasts a purpose built disability friendly outdoor space consisting of many areas to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy and access. Children seeking relaxation can do so under our colour-light-reflecting awning. For those seeking adventure we have our fire truck, climbing wall, tunnel, zip line and basket swing. We also have a range of sensory and musical wall activities. To develop and improve life skills in a fun enjoyable way we have our own corner shop.

Haughton House actively encourage community engagement and social inclusion. Through various activities and outings, we help individuals build social connections and foster a sense of belonging within the broader community. Haughton House has access to our own wheelchair vehicle.

We share this responsibility with the individuals we support and their families so that all can thrive in the embrace of our community.
