Haughton House recently completed an amazing charity walk on Friday 31st May 2024 organised by Johnny Hunt who works at the centre. Funds are needed for developing a new sensory garden at the front of the house that will provide lots of new opportunities and experiences for all of the children at Haughton House.

This project is extensive and costly as it entails removal of tree roots, enhancement of the fire exit clearway, installation of a wheelchair ramp and ground works needed prior to developing the new sensory area. The much needed sensory area will encompass a ground surface suitable for wheelchairs, a new water feature, raised beds made from composite materials and a covered, coloured canopy area.

A Hard Day’s Walk!

Johnny organised and undertook the whole endeavour. It started from Lidl’s carpark in Wicklow Town and wound it’s way through the gorgeous Wicklow countryside and on to the UCD Campus at Belfield, Dublin. It was an early start at 7am and the day was bright with a light breeze to keep the walkers cool. Members of the staff team, some of the families and well-wishers joined Johnny to share the load and provide encouragement along the way. The walkers arrived in to Haughton House mid-morning for a quick break and refreshments before continuing their walk.

A Day of Support and Laughter

The enthusiasm of Johnny and the staff team were infectious and they made it look easy! They finished up to a rapturous welcome to UCD where a number of the children joined Johnny to cross the finish-line at 4.30pm well ahead of schedule!!
